During this period, Jair Bolsonaro, the conservative and anti-establishment president, proved to be one of Brazil’s most popular leaders in history. The country is also transitioning towards a central bank digital currency, giving the government the power to freeze funds or reduce balances at will. Furthermore, the Brazilian Supreme Federal Court is actively gathering information from social media companies, targeting Bolsonaro’s followers, leading to increasing political tensions and imprisonment of political rivals.
In this rapidly changing environment, journalists face censorship through court orders, and the federal government has been exceeding its spending cap, consolidating wealth to promote left-wing ideologies. Shockingly, Bolsonaro has been banned from running for president again until 2030 due to his alleged participation in an insurrection.
